Wormleysburg Council Opposes I-83 Bridge Tolling

October 1, 2021 |

Wormleysburg Borough Council joined with the Cumberland County Commissioners and municipal leaders from Camp Hill Borough, East Pennsboro Township, Hampden Township, Lemoyne Borough, Lower Allen Township, Mechanicsburg, New Cumberland  as well as the West Shore Bureau of Fire Commission to oppose a proposal by PennDOT to toll certain bridges throughout the state, in particular the I-83 bridge, often called the South Bridge. In addition, Council Member and Chair of the Streets Committee Dr. Joe Deklinski provided testimony at a PA House public hearing on 9/30/21 to express our concerns about not only the adverse impacts on local traffic congestion and businesses, but also public safety and our residents’ ability to pay especially if they must travel the bridge frequently. The attached letter explains our shared concerns in detail. The testimony video is available at PA Cable News Network at , search for “PennDOT Bridge Tolling Plan.”
